Whitetail has so many chicks now, its a
job keeping them all in the nest cup
During the night of May the 13th the last chick
was born to see or mostly hear watch this
There is always one, and here it is, the
wayward one. this chick gets flung out of the nest when Mum does
some vigorous cleaning
Here is Mum surveying her territory
this chick gets flung out of the nest when
Mum does some vigorous cleaning watch a video of this
Believe it or not dad still has the cheek to
come calling but on this occasion Mum was out.
All these hungry mouths to feed with only
one parent
Fortunately Mum does not have to travel
far to get fresh supplies, as you can see the mealworm feeder is
only a hope and a jump away
I know there are eleven chicks in there,
but its very hard to see, more than about nine at a time
This little one is still taking chances,
and loves to sleep on mum's back.
The greatest difficulty for a lone parent
with so many chicks seems to be keeping everything nice and clean.
In the mornings you see traces of faecal sacks around the edge of
the nest ready for departure, on this occasion a feather has stuck
to her head were she has been nest cup diving
