This year is starting to go like 2004,
with the male showing little interest in looking after the female.
Most of the time Whitetail is having to feed herself, its a good job
she only has to go a couple of meters to find the mealworm feeder
Here is a picture of her forlornly looking for
that no good mate of hers
Again she deserts her post to see if he is
around
She thinks she can hear him and nips out to
the tree, to look, and listen some more
When he finally approaches she does all
the running flapping her wings vigorously while he gorges himself on
some more mealworms. I am sure he is supporting another female
elsewhere, either that or he is just bone idle
The next morning he calls her from outside but
still does not enter the box.
watch a video of her calling to the male
When she returns she tends to her eggs,
diligently turning them for an even temperature
Again she looks for support but fails to
get any.
I think we may need to supply more mealworms for when the chicks
arrive, half the birds in the district have discovered the mealworms
in the feeder now.
