The morning of the 21st 6 chicks left in
the nest will they all fledge today
This is the first chick leaving, at just
past 6am
You can watch a compilation video of all three
of the chicks as they gather up the nerve to leave the safety of the
nest
Then there were
three, all looking rather sad at the los of their siblings
I caught a couple of them on the feeder, waiting
to be fed
We had unfortunately run very low on mealworms
and purchased this fat block with dried mealworms inside, it didn't
find much favour with them though
This little chick was sitting on the feeder and
I managed to creep up to it in my wheelchair, and try to feed it by
hand
It would not take the mealworm until I beheaded
it and gutted it, just as the parents do, quite charming
We were just sitting down to watch television,
thinking that everything was over for the day. Suddenly one of the
chicks leapt up to the entrance and in a flash it was gone
Within seconds another chick took flight,
and this was the youngest one, the one I was most worried about
This is that chick diving down into the
bush below, and safety for the night
The last chick, looking very sad tried
desperately to settle down into the nest cup for the night, a very
restless one
The following morning both Mum and Dad came
in to feed it, and it was quite some time before it decided to leave
This is it, the last chick, again diving for
the cover, and the safety of the bushes below. We keep a constant
lookout for cats so don't worry they are safe
This video is of the last few moments of the
Blue tit nest for this year
I managed to catch this picture of one of our
chicks in the tree close to the mealworm feeder
This is probably the end of nesting for this year.
It didn't go quite to plan, what with the main professional camera
breaking down in box 1 and the rear cameras in both boxes being slightly
too low, but they came good in the end. I don't think glass walls are
the way to go though, so new boxes for next year I think. We will leave the system running for the next two weeks, so you will be
able to playback the streams from the last week of both nest. We
will be shutting down then for a short while for maintenance, the
hedgehog box needs cleaning out and several other things need fixing, we
will be back though so keep looking.
This year so far we have spent £70 on
additional mealworms and £120 on seed. If you have enjoyed watching, and
feel you would like to make a contribution, then please got to our Tech
page where at the bottom of the page there is a link, here you can

Thanks for watching, and all the lovely emails
you have sent, we hope we managed to answer them all. Byeeeeeee for now
