June (Page 2) 2009
| Many of you will be interested to know
what has happened to the Blackbird nest. On the night of the 2nd
June just a few minutes past nine and although not disturbed as far
as we could see or hear, the female left the nest again over night. |
| She returned at 4.30am and settled back on
the eggs, which must have been cold by then |
She went for a feed a little later and Dad came
to have another look at his expectant brood |
| Returning to the nest again and having a
bit of a clear up, all seemed well, except there is little chance
now that these eggs will ever hatch |
| Dad stands guard again while she is away |
| Hour or so later and again dad stands guard
over the eggs |
| At 10.25 she leaves the nest for the last
time |
| This is her as she flies away, heading
towards the feeder |
| At 10.45am she is feeding on the ground by
the bird bath, and she seems fine |
| Again Dad attends the eggs at 11.16am |
| Just a few minutes past 3.pm, he checks the
eggs and in doing so drops a leaf into and on top of the eggs,
accidentally we are sure |
| At 4.30pm approximately he looks at the eggs
for the last time. We have left the
camera on, and it will remain on over the weekend. The nest and eggs
will be disposed of at the beginning of August, as is the law |
