January (Page 2) 2008

Our new female blue tit has set to work with a vengeance, she has cleared all the remaining wood chips
The male is being extremely attentive, I don't think I have seen a male as keen as this one

This is one of the many changeovers that go on throughout the day

The male hankers down when the female is entering, during this time a lot of chattering is going on between them

Watch and listen to what happens between them

After he leaves she checks around to see if anything has changed

Dusk and she enters for a well deserved rest

A few minuets later and she is fast asleep, the lights do not disturb her

The male enters he's box a few moments later

Many of you who have followed the diary in previous years will know we hand reared a couple of tits in 2006, after a very wet and windy season.  One of those young birds we called Omega, as they had such a bad start to their little lives, they tended to be smaller than normal and also less colourful, as their diet consisted of mealworms, and a few supplements, hence the lack of yellow in the young Omega, as seen in the picture below right, they it would seem, get some of this colour from their food, green caterpillars etc. If you haven't read the story Click this link

I feel very strongly that this male who is very much smaller than the female, is Omega, he bears a striking similarity to him, and loves mealworms, eating many more of them, than other tits, that visit the mealworm feeder. From this point on he will be named Omega, therefore we propose to call the female Aella
