We decide to build a hedgehog box for the many Hoggie's that visit our garden throughout the year. Click the drawing on the left to see a larger drawing of the box.
The first Time a hedgehog decides to use the box in earnest.

It looks so snug in there, will it be warm enough, come the severe weather?

January 2006   January 2007  
Our Hoggie was hibernated in the box right through November and the first part of December. Then it disappeared for about ten days.
Then as if a New Years resolution, Hoggie came back on January the 1st.
.As the nights start to get a bit cooler, it thinks this could do with more bedding
January 2008   May 2008  
Our resident Hedgehog continues to use the Hedgehog box, with the odd visit from long tailed mice or if you like field mice, while it is hibernating
Our Hedgehog box and its supply of food continues to be favoured by many hedgehogs. During this month we have 4 baby hoggies in residence, and the blackbirds use the food during the day

Our new hedgehog box is finished at last, and gets fitted out with a high resolution infrared camera.

Early results look good with a small Hoggie visiting most nights

Our new hedgehog has been running around the garden eating for all its worth to fatten up so it can hibernate safely, we will always provide food, but now it has entered hibernation for at least a few days

Our new hedgehog box gets a visit from a very unwelcome guest, chasing Mice not hedgehogs.

The hedgehog seems undisturbed, lets hope it remains that way

Two hedgehogs are using the box at night but don't stay during the day at the moment
