Ever seen a Hoggie turn in to a froggie well
you can in this clip. Just a bit of fun
This is our resident little Hoggie. Up to
this point it came around most nights for the food we put out.
Here is our little friend returning after
a few hours of foraging
Our little hedgehog hadn't been seen for a
while, and then just like a present it returned on Christmas day
It amazes me how long their back legs are, when
you see them running away they look like little elephant legs. Seen
in this photo it looks like one of the Tiller Girls, high kicking,
who thought all that leg was hidden away in there.
The little darling stayed around for a
couple of days but the weather here is still warm and so it did not
stay
Twelve days later Hoggie returns
Again it stays a couple of days and off it
goes again. I n this photo you can see that it has a couple of ticks
on it, I hope it losses those outside of the box.
Low and behold just as I was writing this,
this morning I see it has returned again, perhaps disturbed by the
gales we have had here
This time it has lost those nasty ticks and
looks pretty healthy
This the little critter at mid day today, will
it stay this time?
The hedgehog has been staying the on and
off for some time doing very little to the nest
Returning for yet another night, just
stopping for a drink on the way
Curled up for another night, the weather is
still quite warm for the time of year
I think that with the warm weather the box
is probably to hot for our little friend during the day
Returning on this night the 6th of February,
things seem a bit more urgent
Although the temperature is still high for
the time of year, Hoggie must know something is coming.
Watch this time-lapse video of how hard
our little hog works to fill the nest with whatever it can find.
The timing is perfect, the next two days we have
snow, what a good weather forecaster
Unfortunately now, we cant see what's going on
inside, but we can still hear Hoggie through the built in microphone
The snow has gone, the temperature is up and
Hoggie is off again, the roof of the nest seems to have collapsed
Last night through a gap in the torrential rain
Hoggie returns. Obviously its not cold enough for it to have to
hibernate yet.
Many of you have said how you like the outside
camera that we put in recently. I have to admit being inspired by
Martin and Sarah at the two Wrennies website
http://the2wrennies.co.uk/ They have to baby Hedgehogs
that they saved and raised, their website is waiting an update
Its obvious that our friend is up to full
weight, but with the very mild wet weather, does not feel the need
to hibernate
I would love to know if its a boy or a
girl but I don't wont to scare it by trying to find out. From this
rear end view I tend to think its a girl, fingers crossed for some
babies in the spring.
The stack of leaves that Hoggie put in the
box is diminishing somewhat now and with all the bad weather we are
having and the strong winds its not likely to find fresh supplies
soon
