February (Page 2) 2009
This last few weeks has been fraught with problems. The new  caballing we had installed seemed not to work properly giving ghosting images. The new box 1 cameras worked well, but the pictures received in the house, were very poor

After weeks of investigating we discovered a nail had caught a few of the cables, so although not all were damaged we had to run a few extras. On top of cable problems, the post that supports the feeder nearly fell over in the very strong winds we have had here, the post was rotten and had to be replaced

Despite all this work going on, in the garden, it seems to have had little effect on the Bluies. Although they show little interest in setting up a nest just yet

New to the garden, this Great Tit has a look in the new box, contrast is a bit of in this picture, fixed later

The side camera is giving good views and should be great to watch from, if and when a nest is constructed

This Blue Tit does a nest wiggle, one of just a few this year, so far

A one wing job here

This Great Tit seen from the side

Back in box 2, lots of interest from Great Tits

This female is checking out the reflection in the glass, because this box gets little direct sunlight, the glass wall works well, and the birds don't attack their dim reflections

This is a shot of the male in the box, trying he's best to entice the Female to enter

She enters and he leaves stage left very quickly

Later that night, a great Tit comes to roost. However it seems to take a great deal of time trying to get in

Settling down for the night, we notice that this bird seems to have a damaged left wing, still usable, but as it tries to get its legs in, the left wing, shoulder joint sticks out, making it very hard to get through the hole

This bird, I think, is the one that had the scrap with the Bluies in box 1, if you check back at the pictures from then, 13.01.2009  you will see that the Blue Tit is hanging on to this birds left wing. You can see in this picture when it returned to box 1 a few days later that its left wing is low

The following night it could not get in the box and went over to some thick bushes to find some cover, from the terrible storm we were having, later that evening in the pouring rain we took the box down, and greatly enlarged the hole, viewable in this picture

This is the same bird on the feeder, and you can clearly see that it holds its left wing very low, but now happily, roost every night, in box 2. Whether it makes a nest, we will have to wait and see, but we could not leave it to the mercy of the bad weather we were having at the time
