Omega is quite a determined male he wants to spend a lot of time in the bird box, either inspecting, clearing out, or testing the entrance for strength. However Aella is not a fan yet, of his intentions

She often swings in unexpectedly chasing him away
This video clip shows Aella chasing him out of the box while still retaining a small snack in her beak, eventually eating same in triumph

Bird box 1 has had its first internal visit from a Great Tit, much to my surprise as I had reduced the size of the entrance plate

In this clip you will see and hear the male calling to the female who is just outside

This is her looking in

As you can see the entrance is a tight fit

Great Tit I hope will nest in bird box 2 as this has a larger entrance plate

As you can see the resident roosting male Omega is not very good at cleaning up after himself, I am hoping soon to clean this box out and perhaps put in some wood shavings, which would make it easier for a prospective tenant to clear out any further mess that may be made

For a few days this starling seemed to be attacking with some vigour Bird Box 1

It did not seem to mater whether there was a bird in the box or not

Another attack on an empty box

In this video clip you will see the ferocity of the attack

Then the penny dropped I caught this picture of the starling trying to get a mealworm from the mealworm feeder

This compilation clip will make it clear that the intelligent Starling has caught on to the fact that, these boxes may contain food. Did you know that these birds are great mimics, select the link below to hear WeeWoo the talking Starling its Amazing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpYHYrMnffc

Can Mealworms SEE

For proof watch this compilation video clip of a mealworm caught in the webs at the top of the mealworm feeder. It struggles to free itself from the web, but the minute a bird enters the box it freezes, the once the bird goes it continues, until another enters and it does exactly the same again.

For a bit of fun watch as Omega struggles with a mealworm caught by a spider we call Fred at the top of the box and a tug of war continues between them, until finally Omega wins.
