April-May 2003 |

23 April.
"Bluey" Laid her first egg.
They normally lay one egg a day, until the clutch for that year is
complete. |
|
25 April
I took this picture, and although you cant see much, there are three
eggs. |
|

 |
|
26 April
The next photo clearly shows four lovely eggs |
|
30 April
This picture was taken and you can still see the same number of eggs.
So it looks like she has settled on five |

|
1 May
Bluey has been incubating the eggs for several days now |
|
6 May
I snatched this picture while she was away feeding herself.
five eggs still intact with Bluey incubating them now |
|
|
 |
 |
|
7 May
There were still the five eggs. Bluey is still incubating them,
there has been no sign of the male blue tit |
|
9 May
The first chick hatched, I was unable to get any more pictures until
the fifteenth when there were four chicks. |

17 May
The weather was atrocious, and on the eighteenth we woke up to some
very strange noises coming from the nest box.
I was just in time to see her struggling to lift out of the box what
turned out to be the last dead chick, and she flew off with it. |

I can't tell you how heartbreaking
this was, my wife and I felt down for days, and we vowed, that next year
would be different.
So we decided to build a new Bird Box and get ourselves some form of
camera that we could install inside. View the next diary, for what happens
