This is Aira, and she has her sights set
on this nesting site
Over the next few minutes she checks out all the
corners of the box, and does a few nest wiggles.
A couple of one wing jobs
She has a look in the glass covered lens but
does not seem distressed, I am very pleased to say. Behind the glass
is painted matt black to cut down on reflections
I read with interest the other day that
blue tits in particular like nectar and can be seen drinking nectar
from flowers. We have a cockatiel indoors called Noddy, he had an
old water feeder, so I thought I would make up a solution and see if
the tits would take to it. Within two hours of it being installed
they were drinking from it on a regular basis. A few days later even
the great tits were using the nectar feeder.
Aira struggles through the tight entrance with
yet another piece of nesting material. where do thy get all there
energy from?
That's a good one
Lots of moss coming in now
This is a video of the Aira and her man
Akio checking out the box for size
The end of the day and this is how much
she has brought in, what a worker
The following morning and one of the great
tits is having a look and trying to get through the tight entrance
hole
The great tit gets attacked by one of the
bluies, in flight
How is it coming dear? Akio calls to Aira
They seem to have the knack of entering
and leaving the airspace around the box now , tricky especially as
it is close to a wall
Aira trying desperately to get a big piece
of moss through the entrance hole, she has several attempts
Eventually her efforts pay of, and another
big piece goes in
Things are taking shape nicely now, I feel
really good that we have a pair of Blue tits nesting, I would really
miss them, as they are, so very entertaining to watch
This video, is of the nest building as of
the 4th April
